No Messages app on MacBook Pro

The Messages application has disappeared from my macbook pro. I have no idea how to retrieve or re-downlad it.

Have you checked the Applications folder? What OS version are you using? You will have to reinstall the OS.

Do a backup, preferable 2 separate ones on 2 drives. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair Disk and Repair Permissions until you get no errors. Then re-install the OS.

Hi,

As Eric says if it has disappeared off the Dock then it can be dragged back as it were from the Applications Folder.

If you deleted it from the Applications Folder you will need Time Machine or as Eric says A Restore to get it back.
